I mentioned in my previous post that I had the full cover for the upcoming Cast in Conflict. I didn’t forget the cover — I did forget that I work at the store on Saturday (it’s curb-side only, but the books don’t get to the curb on their own yet). But it’s not too late. Here’s the full cover :). (I tend to post the full cover because often the front cover is out in the world before I get copies I can share, so everyone will have seen that already.) I like it. It’s a very different type treatment, and I’m curious to know whether or not people will see and identify it as a Cast novel. The artist is Shane Rebenschied, and the art director, Kathleen Oudit. Kathleen lives in Toronto, as I do, … Continue reading

I’ve been given permission to post or reveal this: The cover for the upcoming Severn novel, The Emperor’s Wolves. I love it! I really, really wanted to share it here. Kathleen Oudit, the art director, and Shane Rebenschied the artist, did a fabulous job! Now, I can! Below is the back cover text, which I will attempt to post with covers from now on. AT THE EMPEROR’S COMMAND Multiple races carefully navigate the City of Elantra under the Dragon Emperor’s wing. His Imperial Wolves are executioners, the smallest group to serve in the Halls of Law. The populace calls them assassins. Every wolf candidate must consent to a full examination by the Tha’alani, one of the most feared and distrusted races in Elantra for their ability to read … Continue reading

I have a cover for Cast in Wisdom. I’m (obviously) not going to spoil anything, but will say the setting in which Kaylin finds herself is relevant :). Since a picture is worth a thousand words, I’m going to leave this in the hands of artist Shane Rebenschied and art director, Kathleen Oudit, and I will go back to struggling with words that have not yet reached a stage where they are even a glimmer in the eyes of either.

January was the month in which I vowed I would write the Severn short story that has been owed since, oh, March of last year. However, at 35k words and chapter seven, I realized that this was not actually even a long novella – it’s a novel as it currently stands. So, that is now being discussed with publisher, because: novel. (I’m sorry, Melissa T_T) I have started the second short story I owe from the same period. At the moment, however, I have confidence that this time it will be short, and regardless, length is less of an issue because it doesn’t run afoul of option clauses. I think. (For the record, it’s a short story that takes place in the universe of The Augustine Painters and The Colours of … Continue reading

Many of you have already seen the cover for Cast in Deception in the wild. The artist is, once again, the amazing Shane Rebenschied; the art director is the equally talented Kathleen Oudit. This is the full cover, with back blurb: *** In the good news department: Mira is re-issuing Cast in Shadow and Cast in Courtlight, to coincide with the release of Cast in Deception. They’ll be in trade paperback, with slightly updated covers (fonts, name placement, things like that). *** I have finished page proofs; I haven’t finished the book review column – but I find reading and thinking about books far, far less disruptive to writing than copy-edits or page proofs. Some writers can do both — write first, revise, proof-read — and I envy them enormously. For me, the … Continue reading
