I am, for the moment, done with the Writing Process posts, in part because they were an attempt to answer a question which has cropped up in different ways over the last few years. They were an enormous amount of fun for me. I do have one more post — about the evolution of process — but it’s half-finished, and it has been set aside in favour of taxes. Which is about as much fun as it sounds. Taxes are being done early this year because the annual writing retreat has been moved forward to the end of April. Which would mean I’d be in a different country at about the time Tax Panic sets in. So: early tax filing for me. Writing news: First, the … Continue reading

The Australian branch of Harlequin/Mira has confirmed that as of now, the book has been cleared for publication. It will take the usual time to propagate from upload to consumer ready — 24 – 48 hours — and then it will be available. We’re working to make sure this doesn’t happen again in future, not only because it’s frustrating for you, but also because I (me, Michelle) feel enormously guilty doing book birthday posts when — yes — the book is not available to everyone who can read the post.
It’s pub day for Cast in Oblivion. Print books are in stores in North America – and probably in specialty SF/F stores in the UK and Australia. The audiobooks appear to be available everywhere. The ebooks appear to be available everywhere but Australia/NZ. Anything that can be done from here is being done — I’m really, really sorry because I honestly love my Australian fans T_T. To celebrate this, I have commissioned a map. If you look at the menu bar, there’s a new tab, MAPS, and the drop down has the map for the City of Elantra, done by Mati Demers. (Where by celebrate, I mean that I realized I actually needed a bit of a visual guide after all this time, because I am terrible at mapping, and at reading maps. I am one … Continue reading
This is technically the November edition, but I have been neck-deep in page proofs for Firstborn. Which were due today. November was actually a really productive writing month (until page proofs). I found the beginning of The Black Gauntlet, title entirely tentative, and have one prologue and three chapters. I have more of the Severn book, but some changes from novella structure were necessary. Not as many as I was afraid there would be – but to be fair, I was afraid I would have to ditch all 30k words, so. I have copy-edits for War incoming today, which will eat some writing time — but War is a June title. So: February 2019 and June 2019 for Firstborn and War. I made a comment over at Tor.com, on a review of the … Continue reading
I appear to have missed the month of June =/. This month, I turned in Cast in Oblivion. I have not turned in Firstborn yet, but will hopefully finish it before the end of this month; it was more complicated to split the book than I’d originally intended, and required a couple of running starts, but I am now on the (new) last chapter. I am very glad that I don’t have to worry about the length of the book, since it was the shorter half of the split. Jody Lee, the cover artist, finished the emergency Unplanned Novel cover before I finished the revision >.>. I will share when I can. I am writing the first Severn novel next, Elantra-wise. The next Cast novel should be about … Continue reading
