Happy (very late) New Year! I survived Christmas stress. I’m pretty certain the immediate family survived my Christmas stress as well >.>. I admit that I was taken by surprise, because in general I would not be considered an optimistic person by nature, and as I mentioned elsewhere, I had not realized just how much I had been looking forward to a “normal” christmas, until Omicron hit and that went right out the window. But! After just over a week of writing holiday, I found my writing feet again, and have been getting myself back on track. First: Sea of Sorrows has finally made it to audible.com. I’ve updated the link on the bibliography page. This is the first time I’ve done things on my own, so I have no idea whether or … Continue reading

I apparently missed the November 2021 report, although I did post a couple of things during the absent State of the Author for November. This is kind of State of the Author for December, but with a couple of extras. First: The Queen of the Dead omnibus was published on the 7th of December. I missed the date, for which I apologize. As the title suggests, it’s the omnibus version of the three books about Emma Hall and the afterlife: Silence, Touch and Grave. I admit that while reading page proofs for the omnibus, I cried. I’ve been told it’s a bit heavy, emotionally speaking, but if you haven’t read it and are curious, it’s available now.   *** I have audiobook news as well. Tantor Media picked up the first … Continue reading

Well, the month between the last report and this one has been fraught. Emergency copyedits, emergency proofreading, the loss of brain cells and hair caused by those two, and the usual struggle to get out from under the must-find-only-bad-things given the proximity between the two emergencies… Also, the next Cast book needs a title, so there’s that as well >.< Not as many actual new words written this past month on anything as I would have liked. However! As promised, here is the full Sword and Shadow cover. ETA: The artist is Shane Rebenschied, the art director Kathleen Oudit. BEYOND THE EMPEROR’S LAW In the city of Elantra, the law is upheld by a few groups, and the most feared are the Wolves — the Emperor’s executioners. The newest member of this elite … Continue reading

It’s been an eventful behind the scenes September, and it’s not quite finished yet. First: I am going to be doing a library Zoom call. Back in the non-pandemic age, the Friends of the East Gwillimbury library invited me to speak to library readers. In theory this was going to happen on the 20th of April. This did not happen for obvious reasons. I will be doing a Zoom library call, instead. From their email: This ZOOM  on-line event is limited to 100 people and will feature Friends board member and Sagara fan, Michelle Cowan, as moderator in conversation with the author. How do I  get a ticket?  If you bought a ticket in 2020, we will honour it and send the link after verification.  Please … Continue reading

Today, 29th June 2021, is Cast in Conflict’s publication day. Cast in Conflict started life as Cast in Isolation. My editor(s) liked the title, and I was thinking purely of the book itself. Marketing, however, rightly pointed out that we’d had more than enough isolation in the past year, and anything that reminded people of covid shutdowns and quarantines was Not On. This made sense to all of the people who had liked the former title, which is why it’s now called Cast in Conflict, or ‘Conflict’ as it’s called in this house. *** Today is also the day after my 2nd covid-19 vaccination shot. My reaction has been pretty mild so far (with the expected wow it hurts to lift my arm), and a touch of the usual Michelle … Continue reading
