Well. Today, WordPress upgraded to 5.5. This… broke things, for the first time since 2.x, on my site. Much of the morning, in which I intended to upload the latest short story (after formatting, proofing, etc.) was stalled by the fact that the backend of my site wasn’t really working. (Jeremy Tolbert rescued me: he told me exactly what was broken – a plug-in. It’s upgraded and working now). And then, to top it all off, when uploading the story to kindle, I uploaded the wrong story. I noticed this when uploading to Kobo, because the cover… was the last story’s cover T_T. I have not, however, thrown my computer out the window. Barely. This short story was published in 1997, so written in 1996. It’s interesting … Continue reading

I have a cover for Cast in Wisdom. I’m (obviously) not going to spoil anything, but will say the setting in which Kaylin finds herself is relevant :). Since a picture is worth a thousand words, I’m going to leave this in the hands of artist Shane Rebenschied and art director, Kathleen Oudit, and I will go back to struggling with words that have not yet reached a stage where they are even a glimmer in the eyes of either.
I am, for the moment, done with the Writing Process posts, in part because they were an attempt to answer a question which has cropped up in different ways over the last few years. They were an enormous amount of fun for me. I do have one more post — about the evolution of process — but it’s half-finished, and it has been set aside in favour of taxes. Which is about as much fun as it sounds. Taxes are being done early this year because the annual writing retreat has been moved forward to the end of April. Which would mean I’d be in a different country at about the time Tax Panic sets in. So: early tax filing for me. Writing news: First, the … Continue reading
The Australian branch of Harlequin/Mira has confirmed that as of now, the book has been cleared for publication. It will take the usual time to propagate from upload to consumer ready — 24 – 48 hours — and then it will be available. We’re working to make sure this doesn’t happen again in future, not only because it’s frustrating for you, but also because I (me, Michelle) feel enormously guilty doing book birthday posts when — yes — the book is not available to everyone who can read the post.
It’s pub day for Cast in Oblivion. Print books are in stores in North America – and probably in specialty SF/F stores in the UK and Australia. The audiobooks appear to be available everywhere. The ebooks appear to be available everywhere but Australia/NZ. Anything that can be done from here is being done — I’m really, really sorry because I honestly love my Australian fans T_T. To celebrate this, I have commissioned a map. If you look at the menu bar, there’s a new tab, MAPS, and the drop down has the map for the City of Elantra, done by Mati Demers. (Where by celebrate, I mean that I realized I actually needed a bit of a visual guide after all this time, because I am terrible at mapping, and at reading maps. I am one … Continue reading
