I will start with happy news first: I’m not a fabulous photographer >.>. I couldn’t make to to the RT convention, but they mailed the award, and I received it yesterday (I had it sent to the bookstore because someone is always there during the day). At the moment, it is sitting beside my computer, along with the birthday card I received from DAW (which would be: Sheila Gilbert, Betsy Wolheim, Joshua Starr, Katie Hoffman, and Briar (whose last name I can’t find >.>). This is all good, because: I have — for entirely different reasons, jettisoned the 55k words of Grave, and started it again. And then again. And then again. So: I am working, and have been working, on this book, which I honestly thought would be finished by now. I have not pulled … Continue reading

It’s Canadian Thanksgiving today — American Thanksgiving is in November. But, as I’m Canadian, we celebrate in October in these parts :) In between my last report and this one, I finished the page proofs for TOUCH, which is scheduled for January, 2014, in hardcover. I will have a cover to post very shortly, and will change the book on the front page at that time. I am now over half way through Cast in Flame, although I’m now wondering about the title, given the complications that have arisen from the events at the end of Cast in Sorrow. I am now over halfway (with luck!) through Oracle, which is the new title for the second last book in the House War series. So writing has actually been … Continue reading
So far, 2013 has been a more productive year than the partial disaster of 2012. I have finished and submitted Cast in Sorrow, which, given the existence of a cover and a publication schedule, is a good thing. It’s not — I know this will come as a great surprise to all of you — short. I have finished, but not submitted, Touch, the book that broke my writing schedule for, in retrospect, not very good reasons. I am in a state of perpetual revision there, but I have committed to finishing and submitting it by the end of April. This April. I will reiterate the one thing that I’ve been forcibly retaught: do not attempt to break your own process. Everyone’s process is individual; no two writers work the same way. Sometimes, attempting to … Continue reading
Since I’ve just finished a grueling week of page proofs (for the mass market of Skirmish), I have come up for air and realized that it’s the middle of August. The state of the writer, short form: My brain is mush. I now have the DAW version of the editorial letter, and will be working on revisions for Battle. I have laid out the groundwork for Cast in Sorrow, but I am still working on Touch, sequel to Silence, which will with any luck be finished soon. For those of you who like Audio books, I may have some reportable news on that front, also soon. I’ve booked my ticket to Chicago, where I’ll be attending the 2012 Worldcon this year. Yes, yes, I know — enough with the ancillary news :) It’s August. Cast in … Continue reading
Last July, I started republishing ebook versions of my out of print short stories. I still have fifty-nine to go, but sold Silence, and added a book to my deadline plate. Since I publish the short stories, I am unlikely to seriously tick me off if I let things slide. I promised I would have a print version of Memory of Stone and Other Stories for my print readers. I’m grateful for the many years of support print readers have given me. This doesn’t mean that I’m less grateful for the support ebook readers give me now, but I started writing and publishing in a time when the only medium was print, and many of you have been with me since I started. Also: I have an iPad, but I still prefer reading … Continue reading
