Today, Grave is officially out in the wild. Book Three of The Queen of the Dead, it’s available in hardcover. I’m both nervous and excited because the series is finished with this book. Grave is longer, by about 55k words, than either Silence or Touch. But everyone expects the last book to be longer, right? I went into the store and signed the copies that arrived, and I’ve stubbed my toe on the boxes in the hall (author’s copies — I swear stubbing my toes on a box is how I know a book is real). I can sign/dedicate books if you order them through the store — but as we’re not amazon, the postage is not cheap =/. The Audio book, narrated by Alexandra Bailey, will be available as well. This time, however, while … Continue reading

Today is release day for Cast in Honor. For some reason, I thought it was the 27th, which is not today. This is the state of the writer’s brain =/. This isn’t a spoiler thread, as the book just came out — I’ll start a separate spoiler post in a few days. In other news, I have finished the first draft of Grave. I am working on War and Cast in Flight, and neither of those books is trying to murder me, for which I am profoundly grateful. I have just received page proofs for the mass market of Oracle, and am revising Grave for submission to my long-suffering (more long-suffering in my case than any author should have any right to expect) editor, Sheila Gilbert at DAW. And yes, I know I never did … Continue reading

I traveled to Brisbane, determined to finish Grave. Toronto to Brisbane is a long flight (or long, at least, in North American terms, and very long if one absolutely hates being on a plane, which your author emphatically does). On the first leg of the journey, I sat beside a young man who pretty much spent the entire flight to LA coughing. Or sleeping. Or coughing in his sleep. This did not fill me with confidence, but it’s not like I could get up and switch seats — these days, all flights appear to be full. I arrived in Brisbane after — yes — the longer of the two flights. (I almost wept when I checked ‘how much longer will this flight last’ and found that the ten hours I was certain I had already spent … Continue reading

It’s May the 5th. May 5th this year is release day (sometimes called ‘book birthday’ on the internet) for Oracle. I know that a few of you have already found the book in the wild; when I went into the bookstore on Saturday, I found it :D. This year, for the first time, the ebook for people who are not living in North America is also available. Or will be, within the next few hours (it has gone live on Kobo, which usually takes longer, but not yet live on Amazon or iTunes). In fact, all of The House War books that currently exist are now available as ebooks for people who live outside of North America. They are not available on Smashwords, … Continue reading

It’s July 29th, 2014, and that means — in theory — that every store and on-line site that’s ordered my books should have them in stock. This means that Cast in Flame should be available for anyone who wants to read it. In this book, the idea was that Kaylin would have to deal with normal life: in particular, the normal life that involves finding a new place to live (although it’s true that most people don’t lose their old places quite the way she did). I had the idea while working on Cast in Peril, and wanted to write a novella about the apartment hunt. Because I thought it would be short enough. But by the end of Cast in Sorrow, I realized that there were complications, and complications don’t actually … Continue reading
