Today, the 27th of May, is my wedding anniversary. Today, the 27th of May, is the Guy Gavriel Kay book launch for Written on the Dark, which is being held at the Merrill collection of Speculative Fiction. I’d link, but it’s a ticketed event (tickets were free), that is entirely fully booked. I could have squeaked in as a bookstore employee, except, see above. Wedding anniversary. HOWEVER, today is also the release day for Heir of Light. Heir of Light should, as of today, be available for purchase at all ebook sellers, and also, bookstores. There’s a hardcover and trade paperback version of the book, and the interesting thing — to me, book geek — is that the hardcover has the half-title page and the paperback doesn’t. I just assumed that … Continue reading

This is the full cover dust jacket for the hardcover of Heir of Light. I would have posted it when I posted the paperback full cover, but I just received it today, so I’m posting it now. The text should be the same on the cover flap as it is on the trade paperback. And now I’m going back to the joy of copy-edit reviews for Wild Road >.<.

January and February have been chaotic, frenetic, and full of chaos and confusion. And snow. Which, given where I live, is normal, if hugely inconvenient. And copy-edits, which make me pull my hair out. But: I have a full cover for the upcoming Heir of Light. And also: for reasons I’m not clear on, Mira is publishing a simultaneous hardcover release. I think it’s meant mostly for library purchase, but is being offered on Amazon and physical retailers as well. (I personally would not want a hardcover of the second book in a series when the first book didn’t have a hardcover release, but that’s the bibliophile in me.) For those who listen, I can’t quite figure out on short notice how to add alt-text to the image, so this is what’s … Continue reading

I’m sorry I’ve been so absent. I swear, I think all of my posts recently begin that way >.<. November has been … a month. It’s taken me some time to get my writing feet back under me — but deadlines “help” with that. Someone in comments mentioned the cover for the upcoming (May 2025) Sagara novel, Heir of Light. I hadn’t posted the cover here because I usually post the full cover, and I don’t have that yet — probably closer to May. But: I will post the front cover here in case people haven’t seen it yet, and post the full cover when I get it. I’m waiting on revisions, etc., for The Wild Road, but have been working on Cast in Blood (which is what I’m currently calling the next Cast novel – but titles are always subject … Continue reading

In 2023 I finished and published Hunter’s Redoubt, the first book in the final sequence of the West universe. In 2024, I intend to finish The Wild Road. Or at least finish the first draft of the book. It will still have to be revised, editing, copy-edited, proof-read. Having a publisher didn’t mean those things didn’t have to be done, but my part in the doing was much smaller. It was reactive, not active. But having done it once, I think I’m more aware of what can go wrong, and things should be much smoother. *** In 2023, I finished Cast in Atonement, but that’s author-finished; the book will be published in, I think, August 2024. 2023 also saw the publication of Shards of Glass. For me, “finishing” a book is done … Continue reading
