Heir of Light, full cover

Posted in covers, Academia.

January and February have been chaotic, frenetic, and full of chaos and confusion. And snow. Which, given where I live, is normal, if hugely inconvenient. And copy-edits, which make me pull my hair out.

But: I have a full cover for the upcoming Heir of Light. And also: for reasons I’m not clear on, Mira is publishing a simultaneous hardcover release. I think it’s meant mostly for library purchase, but is being offered on Amazon and physical retailers as well. (I personally would not want a hardcover of the second book in a series when the first book didn’t have a hardcover release, but that’s the bibliophile in me.)

For those who listen, I can’t quite figure out on short notice how to add alt-text to the image, so this is what’s on the back cover:

There is always a price to be paid for power and justice.

With the Academia now awakened from its centuries-long slumber, Robin, a student who hails from a prestigious family, must own up to his destiny. As heir to the Gardianno seat, a highly coveted position within the human caste court, Robin stands to inherit great power when he assumes his birthright — but at what cost?

Under the guidance of a formidable Barrani lord named Teela, Robin wrestles with his newfound duties and the societal complexities that come with the privilege. Soon, however, it’s apparent that others feel entitled to the seat…and they’re willing to do the unthinkable in order to get it.

With Teela and his best friend, Raven, at his side, Robin is ready to battle for what is rightfully his. But when the Halls of Law consider reopening the investigation into the baffling murder of his parents, the truth could lead Robin right to the heart of danger.

This is looking so good! I am getting antsy. I tried to get an arc from netgalley but Mira turned me down. booo

  2. Lesa says:

    Looking forward to the book!!!

I love the elaborate chair on the cover, that gives a sense of the gravitas of the position Robin will assume in the human caste court.
You didn’t type out the bio they give for you. It’s very apt!

I want all your books in hard cover. Can’t believe they finally do it, but of a 2nd book. Wish they would do like a special edition collection of them all. I listen to all your books, but this is a serious I would love the physical.

Good news. I’ve just pre-ordered it.

I agree with Marcia, as I too would like all the cast books in hardcover. I have seriously thought about taking a bookbinding class just to recover all the Cast books and especially the Sun Sword books as I reread them so many times. I have all the House War books in hardcover and will purchase all the Broken Crown books that are produced in hardcover. I’m looking forward to Heir of Light. I like that Mira publishes all the Cast books as Trade paperback which makes them a bit stronger than mass paperbacks.
Thanks again for so many hours of reading pleasure.

Love it! Now to finish my re-listen of Shards of Glass so I can start Heir of Light. Although this series might need to be one I physically read, I’m making slow progress in Shards because I keep thinking I’m listening and then realizing I missed something important and having to backtrack 😋

With regard to hardcover, I’m generally in agreement with keeping it paperback based on personal preference, but I have a friend with dexterity issues who finds hardcover more accessible, so who knows!
