I know I’ve been conspicuously absent lately. I’ve been working on Grave, and I am almost finished it. But people have emailed to remind me that we’re close to release date and there are no Cast in Honor chapters. Here they are :)

I know most of you have probably seen this on-line (at places like Amazon or B&N), but I just got the official cover released to me today, so: here’s the cover for Cast in Honor. Which I love love love. It’s more of a thematic cover than a technically accurate one — but when a cover conveys a mood or a tone to me, it works. Shane Rebenschied is, as usual, the artist responsible for the final cover; Kathleen Oudit is the art director. I want to keep them both for the rest of my career. I kind of want to enlarge the cover, print it out, and hang it on every wall in my home. As for me, I am on a kind of writing retreat (in Brisbane, which is as far … Continue reading →

Actually, let me start with the news first: Mira has bought two more Cast novels! I only have a tentative title for one: Cast in Flight. Which is all I’ll say about it until after Cast in Honor is published. — — — Here is the cover for Cast in Honor, by the inimitable Shane Rebenschied. I love this cover. I mean, I love love LOVE it. I try not to tease about covers or things I can’t share yet — but even I had to mention it when I first saw it because there’s only so many times you can bounce up and down in your household before all of your family starts avoiding you. No, I did not count the exact number of times — I wasn’t thinking Science at the time :).

I did say that I would try to post more often. Or be on-line more often. I have, of course, been less on-line. And Grave is not done. What, you say? Grave was almost done the last time you updated! And I did say that. And it is still almost done. But. I had to more heavily revise Oracle than I’ve had to revise any of the House War books. There was a long section of flashback that I wasn’t certain worked*. It worked for me, but I’m strange like that. It didn’t work in its context/placement (this will make sense when you read the book, but I will not spoil anything). And in the way of Michelle books, excising the section was painful. It wasn’t the only … Continue reading →

First: I want to wish everyone who celebrates it a Happy Thanksgiving! (In Canada, we celebrate in October). Second: I’m sorry I’ve been off-line. Technically, I’m still off-line, but I get the sense that people are beginning to worry, so I wanted to quickly say: I’m alive. November 2014 has not been the best November on record. I had expected to be finished GRAVE by now — and in part, I was not writing an update because I had hoped that I would be able to say it was (or at least the first draft was) done. It’s almost done. Second, I’ve received some email asking about the situation at Harlequin. For those who now wonder why, my long-time editor, MaryTheresa Hussey, was laid off, one of dozens in an internal … Continue reading →
