Nothing else in my house broke down (I say, knocking wood). The heat of summer has passed into the cooler, early autumn, which is my favorite season of the year. (I find Spring too muddy, Summer too hot, Winter too cold (plus snow)). Sadly, it is also my worse allergy season >.<. We had a lovely thanksgiving dinner, a much quieter one than in our early years as a family, with my long-suffering spouse’s parents, sister and brother (and his wife and his young son). It’s been a year, with a lot of ups and downs, a lot of changes. Sometimes those feel overwhelming, destabilizing. But when we’re panicked or stressed — or at least when I am, as I shouldn’t speak for anyone else — I tend to not see the things that … Continue reading

I started this post in July of 2025, but clearly July has disappeared beneath my feet. July was the month of CAC replacement and readjustment. Which technically started in June. 2025 has been the year of home repair. We live in a house that was built at the turn of the 1900s (I almost said century, but that could easily apply to the 2000s, which would not be accurate). I once dreamed of owning a home that wasn’t subject to landlords and their need to get rid of tenants to raise rents, among other things. And yes, a home doesn’t have landlords; it does require banks, and if you don’t pay your mortgage the end result is the same, but they can’t arbitrarily attempt … Continue reading
I missed December, and apologize: I was writing. I’m still writing; Cast in Blood isn’t finished, and it may undergo a title change by the end. Also, I’m now in the “panic about how long this book is going to be” phase of the novel, but it is otherwise going well. In advance: this will not be the last Barrani book. I am hoping to finish, with a reasonable arc, a book that is going to be followed by another Cast Barrani book. Just saying. My entire household succumbed to the stomach flu a week ago, and we have all mostly recovered, although I’m now in that state were, having eaten almost nothing for a week, my body assumes it is starving and wants to eat everything in sight. So, … Continue reading
I’m sorry I’ve been so absent. I swear, I think all of my posts recently begin that way >.<. November has been … a month. It’s taken me some time to get my writing feet back under me — but deadlines “help” with that. Someone in comments mentioned the cover for the upcoming (May 2025) Sagara novel, Heir of Light. I hadn’t posted the cover here because I usually post the full cover, and I don’t have that yet — probably closer to May. But: I will post the front cover here in case people haven’t seen it yet, and post the full cover when I get it. I’m waiting on revisions, etc., for The Wild Road, but have been working on Cast in Blood (which is what I’m currently calling the next Cast novel – but titles are always subject … Continue reading
Today is Cast in Atonement’s publication day — where, in theory, the book is available for purchase everywhere in trade paperback, ebook and audiobook. I really like the cover for this one, and the clothing Kaylin is wearing might seem familiar. Because it is :) I had not intended this book to be what it became — although by this point, I think I’m 50/50 on intention and result. It’s the usual difficulty for me: I have a plan, and it looks good in four sentences on paper. But as I write actual book words, the consequences of the prior book or books rear up and smack me upside the head. So my first chapter – intended to be one angry Bellusdeo and her possible relationship issues – was very immediately and heavily derailed. In cases … Continue reading
