Promotion that runs through to the end of May

Posted in Elantra, writing, promotions.

I survived taxes. Except for one unexpected part that is still ongoing. Taxes give me hives. Or ulcers. Or both.

However, Mira is doing a promotion.

One of these is a reprint, I think – the Maria Snyder book – but it was much beloved when it first arrived.

My book should be on sale during this promotion, at 2.99. So if you have any interest in Shards of Glass, but you haven’t read the book yet, this is probably the best time to pick it up.

***

Just quickly, though: My intention with Sagara stories can flourish or wither depending on the book. I can expect the book to go along the lines of the story I have in my head when I start – but if the book diverges, it diverges. So what I have are story intentions.

When it comes to characters, I have knowledge of their past, threaded through the story; this is different in Kaylin’s case. Mostly. Because she’s the main viewpoint character. But I know general details. I don’t know all of specifics. I knew Severn joined the Wolves five years before Kaylin joined the Hawks. That’s a fact.

I don’t know all of the details. I write them as I write. And characters hijack books. Consequences that weren’t considered with care hijack books.

So: to reiterate: I’m working on the sequel to Shards of Glass now. I think I’m on the end arc, which is not, in any way, to say I’ve finished the book. The next book will be a Cast novel. There are three possible stories I want to tell. But I cannot guarantee that the books themselves will conform to what I intend >.<

Always, always love where the story goes, no matter who is driving — that is what makes the characters so intriguing and intricate. Still hopeful that Severn ends up with Kaylin, they have been through so much together 💕. I’m rooting for the underdogs!

The words will do what the words will do, despite an author’s best intentions. We adore you FOR it, rather than in spite of it. It’s part of what makes a story feel real.

    HI Michelle

  4. Linda says:

Good to hear that there is three possible new stories for Kaylin. That means a least three new books. I love your work. :)

  5. Elizabeth says:

Looking forward to reading whatever you write. And learning more about all of the characters along the way.

Just finished reading Shards of Glass for the third time. I always do this with your books Michelle; first time for the story, second for the style and third for pure enjoyment. I often re-read again when the sequel arrives. At my age (77) I find the wait for a sequel is becoming increasingly frustrating (no pressure!) but I’ve never been disappointed when it finally arrives.

I have listened to all of the Cast books multiple times. I think of the Cast, Wolves and Shards books as a family. They are wonderful. I hear something new each time I listen to them. I to AM HOPING Severn and Kaylin hook up. But all the characters are great. I think I would marry “Tela”. Don’t tell my wife.

  8. Yea taxes are always an issue. Super excited about any new book your writing. Good to hear form you, take care

  9. DB inRichmond says:

We started with the Sagara West books, then the entire (expanding) Cast In… series. Thank you>they bring thoughtfulness, joy, and a total escape from everyday life.

  10. Victoria says:

    The former Arkon is amazing!!!

  11. Debra says:

… except they don’t sell to anyone in the UK. :-( Sad because I’d just read the bit available online and loved it.

  12. michelle says:

@Debra: I’m sorry =/. HarperCollins is region locked. So Mira has the rights, in the English language, to publish anywhere in the world — but there’s a HarperCollins UK, Australia, India, etc., and all of the countries run their own promotions. America/Canada are tightly tied because of historical distribution networks — but often the promotions that are run are US only (i.e. no Canada).
