Come help me launch Silence on the 5th of May

Posted in Appearances.

On May 5th, 2012, I will be setting aside my bookseller hat at Bakka-Phoenix books in Toronto, and donning the slightly more nervous author hat, from 3 – 5 p.m., where I will be signing my upcoming novel, Silence.

Come and keep me company! There will be food, non-alchoholic beverages, and books, and me in my mostly native setting.

ETA: One of the best things about a post like this is discovering where other people are reading from. Even if they can’t come to see me :).

  1. Paul Howard says:

    Wish I could come but I can’t.

  2. michelle says:

    Me too >.>

Actually, I expect that most of the blog readers will probably not be conveniently located in the environs of Toronto or its immediate suburbs — but, just in case, I thought I should mention it here.

  3. So tempted to road trip. It’s only five and a half hours… (and a border crossing)

  4. Genna Warner says:

Hmm. I wonder if I can con a friend of mine in the area to go for me. Plotting is a foot. :)

  5. Jo O says:

I’ve just been notified by Amazon UK that my copy has been dispatched and as I have Prime I should get it tomorrow. They originally told me to expect delivery on 8th June so this was a nice surprise.

  6. Christina says:

Unfortunately for me, I am in Alberta and cannot come to see you. I wish I lived closer. :( But thank you very much for the wonderful and beautiful books you write!! I may not be able to see you, but I will absolutely be in the bookstore on May 5 in order to buy Silence!!!!! Thank you!!!

  7. bonnie holmes says:

my most favorite and wonderful sister will hopefully by proxy coming to the signing and sending me silence.boy i love my sister.one of these years when certain of my responsibilities end i will be coming to see you.you have been warned.lol

  8. Annah says:

I told my Mom that if we were ever in the vicinity of Toronto — whether it be passing through or staying in a hotel ten miles away that I was going to badger her and Dad into driving me to your “mostly native setting” and having a nice conversation about books after my fangirlness dies down.

Because THAT didn’t sound creepy or stalker-ish AT ALL… *note sarcasm*

  9. Aaron M. says:

Tucson, AZ might as well be the other side of the world from Toronto. Someday. Until then, I’ll be there in spirit.

  10. michelle says:

That’s not the way it’s supposed to work. The way it’s supposed to work is you say you’re not coming and I pout.

    Right?

  11. michelle says:

It really doesn’t sound creepy to me :D

  12. michelle says:

I’ll be happy to see her again :).

  13. Chris says:

I’m in the right continent, but not *quite* close enough to make it. I hope that the book is a success and that everyone who goes has a great time! :)

  14. mvictorine says:

That… is a really nice thing to say.
    *Ahem*
Michelle, I am really sorry, but I will not be able to come up to Toronto to mock you ruthlessly and celebrate your new release.
    Please forgive me!
In fact, you *must* let me take you and Thomas out to dinner the next time I see you! No arguments!

(Also, this comment box is acting weird and hiding the words at the far right side. You should say something to your website gnomes. Maybe threaten them a little.)

  15. Ralph Walker says:

I, too, am unable to attend. Massachusetts is is not terribly distant, but I will have to plan to make a Toronto trip another time. Looking forward to Silence. I have it on order from my local B&N.
More great books from you to read. I don’t know if I deserve this much happiness!

  16. Adenike says:

Except for finals.…a paper, and 2 presentations, I would totally fly from New York. Alas.

  17. Scorbet says:

I’d also love to come but google maps is informing me that I’d a) 37 days to drive there so it’s a bit late b) require 1 jetski journey, as well as 2 kayak trips to get there :-)

(I’m in Shanghai in case you’re wondering.)

  18. michelle says:

    Shanghai O.o

Yes, that would be little far to travel. Except for the little part :)

  19. Michael says:

I live in the Toronto suburb known as Buffalo, NY, and hope to be able to attend. I’ve been meaning to give Bakka-Phoenix a visit for a long time now, and this is a good reason.

  20. Lara Beneshan says:

How I wish I was a little closer! I’m sure it will be lots of fun!

  21. Mandi says:

I wish i could go! Any chance of you doing a signing in NY, or even NJ, CT, or PA? Please, Please, Please!

  22. CallyPendragon says:

hm.. come vacation in the sunny wilds of warm Florida? (and by warm, I mean 90 degrees today). Wish I could come.. but Toronto is just a BIT far :) but hey.. you decide to come visit the land of the mouse.. I’m there!

  23. Meagan says:

I would come if I could, but as with most people here that’s not really close by. Looking forward to reading Silence though as I need a new book desperately. When I can quote things verbatim from books at people it’s a sign I have clearly read it one or twenty too many times — or at least the looks I get tell me ‑they- think it’s a sign.

Back on topic…probably better there is a distance issue as I am terribly shy and would probably hide in a corner.

  24. michelle says:

I usually attend Confluence, which is the last weekend of July, in Pittsburgh, which is in PA. Generally, though, because I don’t have a driver’s license and do have two kids, I don’t get out and around all that much >.>

  25. Shaima says:

Hi Michelle I’m ecstatic for may 5th. I’ll finally have something to keep me occupied while I ever so patiently wait for Cast in Peril, lol. I can’t wait. I love your books, and living in Toronto finally gives me the chance to meet my favourite author at last!
    Cant wait, see you there!
PS. lame question.…but Bakka Phoenix is a bookstore right? Just wondering in case I have to get my copy from somewhere else. lol

  26. Mandi says:

Thank you for the information about Confluence. I will look that up! I have to ask about the driver’s license though… how come you don’t have one?

BTW I absolutely LOVE the Elantra books!! Can’t wait for Cast in Peril to come out!! I recommend those books to all of my friends!

  27. Estara says:

Best of luck for the signing! I’ll be getting my ebook copy and reading it on my Sony Reader in Germany thinking of you all. If I should ever make it to Canada at all Toronto and your bookstore are definitely on my to-be-visited list.

  28. Shaima says:

please ignore the last bit abt Bakka Phoenix. Obviously I need to brush up on my skills on using the internet. lol.

  29. Michael says:

Just to be sure … you will have a big pile of books on hand so I don’t need to order one posthaste from Amazon, right?

  30. Michael says:

I didn’t intend that as a reply to Shaima.
Not sure how I managed that.

  31. michelle says:

We will have a pile of books on hand.

I’m not sure why the reply came where it showed up; I’m having a tiny bit of trouble myself (commenting, not in reply position, but still >.>)

  32. michelle says:

I feel as if you’re always here in spirit, Estara :)

  33. annette says:

i would like to know when it is coming out in Australia so i can order it from Dymocks book stores, otherwise i will try and get them to get it from usa for me.

    Annette

  34. michelle says:

Sadly, there is no Australian publisher at the moment =/.

  35. Shaima says:

is the book signing from 3 – 5 or 3 – 6 (bakka phoenix website says something else) ^^0 crossing my fingers hopefully 6pm? Either way, gonna rush over after work and bring my fangirl-craziness to the signing. (lots of Nightshade conversation)

  36. Kat F says:

I know some people who live in Canada, but I don’t think our relationship has progressed to the point that I could beg/threaten/blackmail them into going as my proxy (all that online friendship stuff still leaves me awkward — even after meeting some of them in person). I live in Alaska, so well, I’ll continue to cheer you on and gush over you to those in my vicinity from here.

In the meantime, I lost one of the House books as I was nearing the end. I was cleaning, and as is often the case when I clean I had an intention to “straighten things” where things is all-the-things and straighten is irreversibly-lose-all-the-important-things. Bah. I was trying to slow down reading it so it would last longer, but not to the point of complete standstill. I keep telling myself I’m not suffering withdrawals from seeing it and knowing it’s there ready for me to pick up and read whenever I want, but then again I have a history of lying to myself. Might go with a second copy, whereupon the first will spring from its hiding place forthwith.

  37. Aww. That is SO kind!
