Heir of Light pub day!

Posted in Publication, Academia.

Today, the 27th of May, is my wedding anniversary.

Today, the 27th of May, is the Guy Gavriel Kay book launch for Written on the Dark, which is being held at the Merrill collection of Speculative Fiction. I’d link, but it’s a ticketed event (tickets were free), that is entirely fully booked. I could have squeaked in as a bookstore employee, except, see above. Wedding anniversary.

HOWEVER, today is also the release day for Heir of LightHeir of Light should, as of today, be available for purchase at all ebook sellers, and also, bookstores. There’s a hardcover and trade paperback version of the book, and the interesting thing — to me, book geek — is that the hardcover has the half-title page and the paperback doesn’t. I just assumed that the interiors would be 100% the same.

Our bookstore does have copies in-store, although I admit we’ve all been a bit excited about the Kay >.>

Happy Anniversary! How do you plan to celebrate this year?

And Happy Book Release Day! I expect a call from my local genre bookshop any moment now to let me know HEIR OF LIGHT is available for pick-up. :)

  3. Ellie says:

Not sure if anyone else has this issue, but my ebook order through amazon is not releasing. It shows as pre-ordered, not yet shipped (really looking forward to this book)

  4. michelle says:

@Joey: We’re going out to Scaramouche for dinner, sans our beloved sons :).

Congratulations on your anniversary. It is a big accomplishment. Also looking forward to reading your new book. Thank you

happy anniversary and happy book release day! My loving husband found Heir of Light just getting put on the shelves Friday so I’ve been savoring it throughout the weekend, but really glad I can switch to the more portable ebook soon.

Congratulations on both your wedding anniversary and the book!! Needless to say, I love your books under both West and Sagara since you first published and am so pleased to have a book from each series to read in short order. Thank you for continuing to support my addiction, one of the greatest pleasures in my life!

Happy Anniversary to you and your husband. I got my hard back copy of Heir of Light today, can’t wait to dive in.

  10. Chris G. says:

    Congrats on release day!

And your book in HC and PB is clearly superior to one released in only one print format. ;)

  11. Karen says:

Happy Anniversary. Amazon came through and halfway through the book. Love it.

  12. Melissa P says:

Happy Anniversary! Yay, book release day! All hail the preorder feature! (I’m very excited) My family understands the significance of a “Michelle Sagara book release day” as opposed to an ordinary book release day. They have learned to tolerate random episodes of maniacal giggling as I wait for the delivery person. Though honestly I am also usually reading the kindle version that downloaded at midnight while waiting for the hardcopy to arrive. Seriously, I don’t have the patience to wait all day, and I love the smell of a freshly printed book. I tend to go full-on Gollum when I get a shiny new Sagara book. Thank you for sharing your stories with the world. Thank you for bringing me moments of joy. I hope your anniversary is glorious!

  13. Taen says:

Happy Anniversary! The book was wonderful! I went back and reread Shards of Glass afterwards, then Cast in Atonement for the nth time… and now I should probably rejoin the human race. 😅 Will this be an Academia duology, or will there be another book to follow? ( Apologies if you have answered this question before… )

  14. michelle says:

@Taen: I haven’t answered this question before :). The next book is CAST IN BLOOD. I’m less certain about books beyond that at the moment – what follows in the Academia universe is more heavily Barrani/Teela. But: thank you!

  15. michelle says:

@Melissa P: I do this too – and always have – but never with my own books, for obvious reasons. It’s been a bit of grey period for me for the past few months, so little sparks of joy are really helpful — and this made me happy :)

  16. michelle says:

    @Karen: Thanks :).

  17. michelle says:

@Chris G: I thought it was an unusual choice, but my editor said it was probably an edition meant mostly for library purchases, but offered for sale to the general public.

  18. Phil Boswell says:

Thanks to some sensible person at your publishers I was able to snag this as soon as the notification arrived, since it didn’t cost as much as the previous three books combined. Now I just have to figure out how far I need to go back to catch up on the story!

  19. michelle says:

@Phil: I am so confused, re: price. But: You only have to go back to SHARDS OF GLASS for this one, although it does take place in the CAST universe. You can also reread CAST IN WISDOM to understand where the Academia came from.

  20. Trinette deWijk says:

I was happy to hear more about Teela. She has always been one of the characters I found the most interesting and I have missed her. I also like the history of sentient buildings and the Green

  21. Phil Boswell says:

@MIchelle sorry I don’t mean to be confusing, but until a couple of weeks ago the UK Kindle price for Shards was just a shade under £15: now that the price has dropped the three most recent books are £5 each! I am catching up on Shards and hoping to reach Heir any day soon…it’s most intriguing seeing familar characters through unfamiliar eyes.

I am curious about the timescales involved: how many centuries is it since the various Dragon Wars? How long were the High Halls in their “changed” state? How old is Starrante really?

I love the way your immortal characters are so cavalier about huge swathes of time but not knowing gives me mental itches that I would love to scratch!
