(The change has happened because, while I wasn’t paying atten­tion, mail chimp changed every­thing behind the scenes. I send out publi­ca­tion news two to three times a year, so I’ve been looking for a free mailer, and at the moment, settled on server​.net.)

You want to be noti­fied when­ever some­thing is posted on the blog about anything that comes to the mind of the author. Also: general progress reports (State of the Author) and occa­sional answered ques­tions. You will also get the infor­ma­tion in the News & Book related email list; it’s a subset of what is posted on the blog. If you sign up for both, you’re going to get some posts twice.
