Taxes.

Because I’m Canadian, taxes are due on the 30th of April. Except, apparently, for this year. A proof-reading error caused an official government document to be released with a due date of May the 5th — the same day as Oracle is released. The minister decided that that error was now the official due date for 2015.

That said, I spent all day yesterday surrounded by piles of unlogged paper. I will spend all day today surrounded by slightly smaller piles, and probably tomorrow as well. Yes, that is the sound of Michelle tears.

I have done no actual new writing this month. I had hoped to be back to Grave, but return to Grave caused revisions of Grave. And loss of hair, due to pulling-by-me.

But… I also said I would have Oracle out, in ebook, in non-North American markets, when it went live in North America.

I’ve now uploaded all versions of the previous five novels. They should be available in iTunes, at Amazon, and at Kobo, although Battle might not be completely live until tomorrow. (There’s a small problem with House Name and Kobo which I will hopefully get fixed sometime really soon. No, really.)

I am proofing & formatting Oracle now. Or rather, I am proofing and formatting Oracle when I need to take a break from taxes. Given that most of April has been formatting and proofreading, I’m not really certain it qualifies as a break, per se — but I’ll take it.

I wrote something on LiveJournal, about why I try to be apolitical on-line.

And now: taxes. Proofing. Oracle.

    Hang in there, Michelle!

  2. I am hanging, in a manner of speaking. Are you going to Sasquan?

  3. Anon says:

Michelle — Barnes & Noble has the ebook available on May 5 — is that likely to be accurate?

  4. I would be willing to bet on it, yes :).

  5. Pewpewkachu says:

Don’t go stark raving mad on us. You can do eet! Very much looking forward to Oracle. This is the most excited I have been about a book release in forever~

  6. Ellen says:

I got as far as Oracle releasing May 5 and immediately went online to the TP Library to put a hold on it. I came back and read the rest of your post after. That’s how excited I am to read it. Don’t pull too hard on your hair, you’re always worth the wait.

Can we have 3 strands of hair to weave into a bracelet?

Everyone goes bald around tax time. Sorry you haven’t had time to write, but I know we will benefit from all that pent up writing creativity. Any hints about when we will get a peak at Cast in Honor? Really counting the days. Your books are always a treasure.

  9. Joey says:

Yes, might I see you there? And if so, may I stalk-I-mean-connect with you?

  10. Mary Allen says:

I’m so excited… This morning I got an e‑mail from Barnes and Noble saying my copy of Oracle has been shipped. I thought you would like to know. I have already read the prologue and first chapter so can hardly wait.

  11. Nikki says:

Looking forward to Oracle! I did notice that Amazon has the cover and blurb for Cast in Honor up. I really like the cover!

  12. ElizabethN says:

Glad you survived taxes, or will come 5/5.

Thanks Nikki, went and looked, cover of Cast in Honor is on the paperback format if someone else is only looking at the kindle format. Very very nice.

Any chance of the cover (front & back) being posted either here or on tumbler? I had Cast in Flame as my pc background for months prior to release, torturing myself, and would love to do the same with Cast in Honor.

Oracle was delivered to my Kindle this morning, and while I can’t let myself read it until after my genetics exam tomorrow (otherwise I will get no studying done!), I am incredibly excited. It will be a wonderful reward for finishing my first year of med school.

Will there be an audiobook version of it available at some point? I love having audiobooks of my favorite books, and the voice actress for the House War books is excellent.

  14. Anon says:

Michelle — I am so frustrated. I cannot buy the ebook in the UK at all — not on Kindle and not on Nook. What makes me really, really cross is that it is available IN ENGLISH on Amazon.fr. Help!

  15. Anon says:

Michelle — just to update you — I have contacted Amazon uk and been told that the reason that it is not available on the UK website is because you have not authorised it for sale in the UK. Would you do this please, please, please?

  16. HILDA says:

I just received an e‑mail from Amazon about Oracle; I’m assuming is ready to download in my Tablet, or they will mail it. They were not clear. The problem is I can’t find the Rolo Desk cards where I keep the Amazon & Barnes & Noble codes for accessing my accounts. CAN“T UNLOAD MY BOOKS. Michelle, I understand now your pulling hair. I’ll be bald soon. I never thought there was something worse than not receiving books from you early enough. This is worse. I paid for same day delivery (book and electronic), and my tablet has it because the message came. NO BOOK!!!

  17. michelle says:

I’m sorry =/. The version you are seeing at the moment is the DAW version. The DAW version is, in theory, available only in North America. DAW is the publisher for that version. Since they have North American rights, they can’t actually change the territorial availability.

There is a UK version coming — it’s in process at Amazon and iTunes now, and is actually available at Kobo.com. It should be available to actually purchase any minute now. I should have had it ready for midnight of May 5th — but with taxes and formatting and etc., I didn’t get it uploaded until 4:00 a.m. today.

  18. michelle says:

Okay, yes, that is almost as bad as Taxes >..

  19. michelle says:

Yes, there will be an audio version of the book; I know it was recorded because I’ve been in contact with the narrator. It’s not available at audible.com yet, and I’ve never figured out how to find something that is forthcoming but not released on that site >.>

    But, yes.

  20. Anon says:

Michelle thank you so much. I can hardly wait to read it!

  21. michelle says:

Yes — give me a couple of days to recover from taxes & to celebrate ORACLE (well, to celebrate the fact that it is now entirely out of my hands and there is therefore nothing else I’m behind on with regards to the book >.>), and I will do a cover post because yes: I love that cover :)

  22. Just wanted to confirm that Battle is available on Kobo for Not NA:

    https://store.kobobooks.com/en-US/ebook/battle‑8

Along with the rest of the House War (except for House Name, as you mentioned.)

  23. Sarra Bess says:

    I’m looking forward to it!

  24. Derk says:

Just watched a music Video by Aqua titled “My Mama Said ” Lead Singer Reminds me of the Queen of the Dead. The others at the table Look like Necromancers.
