Cast in Conflict: Preview

It’s come to my atten­tion that it’s already May >.<. May is the month before June. End of June is the publi­ca­tion date for Cast in Conflict. My brain still thinks it’s April because April is a better month to be stuck in with impending deadlines.

But it’s May. So: it’s time for the preview first chapter for the upcoming Cast in Conflict. I believe previews exist else­where now — I’m not sure how long they are, though, because the last book I gener­ally check for these things are my own — I mean… I’ve read the book multiple times by the point previews gener­ally go live.

One of these days, Kaylin will have a good day. This one even starts with great promise…

    Worth the price of admis­sion for the cover art alone! Have you thought of a campaign to convince a publisher to go hard­back on these?

    Ummm, no. As a book­seller I find some readers really dislike the change in format in the middle of a series. I could see it in a future series, but… not so much this one.

    Regard­less, if it happens one way or the other, it’ll be the publisher making that call, not me.

    ETA: I do appre­ciate the thought and the love of the books. I buy things in hard­cover as a pref­er­ence for my known authors — so I under­stand the wanting hard­covers. Rereading, the reply seemed a touch harsh, so — I apol­o­gize for the terseness.

    I don’t know why I persist in reading the preview chap­ters; all it does is leave me hungry and antsy while waiting another month. I will have a happy birthday.

    I know, right? I try not to read previews because what should follow the last page of Chapter One is … Chapter Two. And in previews that Chapter Two is a month or two away.

    And then I pull all my hair out and scream. And whine. Which my house­hold toler­ates because they’re used to reader-me.

    Michelle, As a reader, I agree. I had one series I was seri­ously invested in go into hard­cover and I hated it. Not so much for the expense, which was consid­er­able, as the way it misaligned my shelves (is that petty?). I could have waited for the paper­back to arrive but that was always delayed when there was a hard­cover involved and this was before ebooks of any kind. I always liked the larger trade paper­backs because they give the best of both options i.e. larger pages with pretty covers and less expen­sive to buy. Sadly, I no longer have my phys­ical copies having fool­ishly dispersed in a wanton cull. I then had to rebuy every­thing for my kindle.

    I am happily awaiting the end of June — even more so now that i’ve ‘read ahead’.
    I like the paper­back versions, easier to trans­port (and take up less space).
    When I moved a few years ago, I real­ized I had to decrease the size of my phys­ical library, and so most every­thing is on kindle — except these, which I have in both formats!

    Thrilled to take a ‘sneak peak’ … can’t wait to receive the book itself. Just read the whole serie after finishing ‘the Emperors Wolves’… so i am very exited for the new book! Will there be a sequel to the Emperors Wolves ?

    I have already ordered the book and am patiently waiting. I am so not going to read the preview of chapter one, it will just frus­trate me. I have been reading your books from the begin­ning under both names, which is sad for me. I am following 3 – 4 series you write, and if they were not all by the same person, I would have faster books, but it is worth it because all the books in the different series are wonderful.

    Ya know, I never real­ized it but I’m obvi­ously some­thing of a masochist. I try to resist.….really I do, but I break­down and I read the preview anyway. Now, I have to suffer while I wait for Cast in Conflict to be released in its entirety. Such a sweet yet agonizing pain. Thank you Michelle! By the way, Emper­or’s Wolves — Wow! And you’re working on a sequel?!? Now that is good news for these strange times in which we live.

    I too couldn’t wait and gave into temp­ta­tion. I am ordering Cast in Conflict today. I wonder if you will wake any of the other dragons as the Emperor is sort of short two in his court. As a reader who rereads all your books multiple times they last better as hard­backs. I’m thinking of taking a book binding class or watching You tube to try and preserve my copies of the Sun Sword Series. I have the short stories on Nook and four of the Cast books but holding a book is so much for satis­fying. Thank you so much for contin­uing the Emper­or’s Wolves series. It is so nice to get some of the back story on Severn

    Also: glad that you survived surgery, which is stressful in the best of times, which 2020 hasn’t been

    I preordered CinC and another book. I just had a request for feedback/review of the other book which is coming out in two weeks.

    I tried to give snarky feed­back, but they wanted essay answers.
    (This was not your shop).

    I’m not sure we even *have* a survey tool attached to our store. But I think it’s fine to just ignore surveys unless I either really love or really hate elements about the on-line store experience. 

    Otoh… on those occa­sions when I want to leave feed­back that’s specific, I’m sure it won’t come as a surprise to anyone that I tend toward essay answers…

    I requested a hold on your book at Barnes and Noble because the last three times I pre-ordered and had it shipped free it took longer. They called me on the 21st and said it was in. I bought it yesterday and am almost half way through. I have spent the last two week­ends at the hospital with my husband. He had a heart attack on the 11th and they put two stents in on the 12th. On the 17th we had to go back to the hospital when his blood pres­sure hit 210 over 100 but it looks like they now have his blood pres­sure under control. The reason I am telling you this is I was so looking forward to your book and having it to read is really helping me to deal. I can get lost in your char­ac­ters and world and take a break from my reality. I am enjoying the book and like learning more about the towers.
