Cast in Flight, cover

Posted in Elantra, covers, Shane Rebenschied.

I am sorry. I am so very late with this. I went to and returned from MidAmerican II, where Sheila Gilbert won a much deserved Hugo (Yes, of course I’m biased.) I had a wonderful time, met new readers and old readers, and did not drop the ball too badly (I think, again: bias). I read the prologue for War at my reading. Because that’s what I wanted to read >.>.

The cover for Cast in Flight has been live on retailers for a while, so I am posting the full wraparound cover for those of you who want to read the back :).

I cannot wait until October! Thank you for posting. Seeing the wrap around cover is somehow so much better than just seeing the front. Hope all is well with you.

  4. Nova says:

Yay, can’t wait to read this! October can’t come soon enough for me. Thank you so much for all your hard work, we readers really appreciate the amazing worlds you create.

  5. What a delightful birthday present ;) I hope you’ve garnered at least one of the artwork originals for your wall?

  6. Tchula says:

I so wish I could’ve been there to hear you read War’s prologue. And a well-deserved congratulations to Sheila Gilbert! I’m thrilled to hear she won her Hugo! Looking forward to Cast in Flight’s release in a few weeks. :-D

  7. DebbieH says:

Love this cover! Setting aside a couple days to read it in October.

  9. Ralph Walker says:

A beautiful cover, but I thought that Jody Lee had been convinced to do this cover. Obviously, I was mistaken. I’ve had my pre-order in for awhile. Come on October!!!

  10. ElizabethN says:

Love the cover, much more clear and bright than the retailers’

  11. Linda says:

    Can’t wait for the book.

  12. michelle says:

@Tchula: Joey taped it. Well, had it taped — with permission; he said there are people who didn’t make it to Kansas City who might want to hear the reading.

  13. Samantha says:

Lovely cover, very evocative! Can’t wait to finally have the book in my hands! I have to ask, though… Is the cloak Kaylin is wearing the same cloak Evanton was working on for her in Cast in Chaos? If it is, and given the cloak may have some more..unusual, yet practical, properties, being one of Evanton’s enchantments, is the cloak somehow significant to the Cast in Flight story?

  14. Tchula says:

@Michelle: Joey posted about it in the yahoo group, too. I haven’t gotten around to asking for it yet. Knowing me, I’ll end up waiting until you post it up here. lol

  15. Mary Allen says:

I started over and read all the House War books again and am not on the second book of the Sun Sword Series again with a stop to read all the short stories and just can’t — don’t want to believe that War will be the last book in this World. I just don’t want it to end. Thank you for hours of enjoyment.

  16. michelle says:

@Mary Allen It is Jewel’s last book, but not *the* last book >.>

  17. eilidhdawn says:

    Pretty pretty , can’t wait

  18. controuble says:

@Michelle: Thank you so much for letting Joey tape your reading, etc. His email stated, “I mainly recorded the klatsch conversation for a certain Trouble” Yeah, I lost my job and couldn’t afford to go after all. Luckily, my job for the con was all done — fan table reservations and pre-con party maven.

    Michelle,

Thank you so much for your answer that War won’t be the last book in the Essalieyan World. You have created so many characters that will make for more great stories in this world. I have loved all the cast books too. I own multiple copies of all your paper backs because I reread them so much. I’m even thinking about taking a book binding class so I will be able to keep reading them. Thanks again.

  20. Andrea Smith says:

Samantha — I wouldn’t put too much thought into the cloak on the cover of Cast in Flight. It would be awesome if it turns out to be that cloak. I was pretty excited about the Sword on Cast in Honor’s cover. Hoping it was Lord Nightshades but alas the sword didn’t make an appearance in the book. I really like CiF’s cover… Seeing the cover always makes it real for me. I’m getting excited! Soon MS will post the first chapter. Squee!
Michelle — Thanks for all the hard work! Love your books. Please keep us informed if your doing any interviews with the new book. (finding MSW interview is like finding a rainbow, and definitely surprising and worthwhile.)

  21. DebbieH says:

I think the cloak is the one Nightshade wore when they all went back in time and it got caught in the door. Kaylin put it in her pack and brought it back with them. Evanton could have done something, but I don’t see why. Unless he put another beaded hawk on it. Can’t wait.

  22. Stephen Engel says:

I like the colors on the cover. :)
Where can I get a copy of your taped prologue to War?
I so wish I could have been there.
Has a time frame for War been set?
I love your books, particularly the characters, you are the best.
    Thanks. Stephen Enhel

  23. Daniel Catudal says:

Michelle, Would it be at all possible for you to post your taped reading on this web site. I would love to hear it. It would be such a complement to your books to finaly have your own voice behind the scene. Love all your books by the way, you are the best.
    Thks, Daniel

  24. Nadine says:

Thank you for signing my books. Now i’m even sorrier I wasn’t able to go- I would have loved to hear that prologue. My SO really got a kick out of your squeeing at Crosstalk.

  25. Will Cast in Flight and War be released via Audible as well? Also do you know if the Sun Sword books and/or Hunters books will be available in an audio format? Thanks! P.S. I would also love to hear the recording of the reading…

  26. Isaacs Lauren says:

I love your books and can’t wait for the newest ones. I keep them and re-read many times. You are one of my very favorite writers.

  27. merie says:

You say that its Jewel’s last book. I do hope she will have a happy ending. She brought us so much.

  28. Isaacs Lauren says:

Please don’t let this be Jewel’s last book. Will be so sad to loose her.

  29. Blue Beak says:

When will excerpts from the book (i.e. Chapters 1, 2) be coming out? I’ve been checking since August. Thanks.

  30. Kick says:

It’s a month before Cast in Flight comes out. Could we have a chapter to tide us over? Pretty, pretty please.…

  31. Jo Owen says:

  35. Mac says:

Do we have any news on the Audible version?

  36. Raeann says:

I think the Audible version comes out in February.

  37. silentmym says:

Oh no, now I have read the first 4 chapters and HAVE TO WAIT!!!!!

  38. Mac says:

So is it ture, the audible version is releasing nearly 4 months after the paper version of the book? That happened with the last book as well, iIrc :( ~sad panda~

  39. DebbieH says:

I just pre-ordered Cast in Flight from Audible — release date Oct. 25 according to Audible. So glad don’t have wait 4 months.

  40. ElizabethN says:

Thanks Debbie! Just pre-ordered at audible.

Hopefully michelle recovers enough to rejoin the internet briefly.

  44. The Bee says:

Not to pressure, but have you by chance started the latest installment of the house wars series? Or anything related besides hunters oath? Anxiously waiting as i love and have read all of them
