Cast in Deception Release Day!

Posted in Audio books, ebooks, Elantra, Mira.

I thought today was Monday.

While telling someone that release day was tomorrow, I realized that tomorrow was actually today, January 23rd, 2018. That’s what January has been like, so far…

Cast in Deception is now out in the wild. It is available in ebook and in audiobook, and Khristine Vham is the narrator for the latter (I’m very, very happy about this, and sometimes feel I should nail her feet to the studio floor so she will always be the narrator – and this would, of course, be bad of me).

    I’m already reading. Love it

  2. Aelynn says:

    Ooh, splendid news!

  3. Nina Lil says:

I’m so excited about this book. Kristine Hvam is my favorite narrator and I’m so happy that she continues to kick butt performing this wonderful set of books. I’d be awfully disappointed if we lost her for any reason. I’m embarking in this journey tonight — can’t wait!

  4. michelle says:

    @Mary: thank you :).

It’s not that I wasn’t aware of the publication date — I just wasn’t aware that the date and today were the same day.

On the bright side, I did get new word writing done today…

  5. michelle says:

@Nina: Narrators are so important, and in many ways, they become the voice of the book. Even if another narrator who is good picks up a series, many readers — listeners? — will viscerally feel that it all sounds *wrong*. And — she’s great, and I’m grateful to continue to have her.

  6. DeDe says:

Can’t wait! I’m waiting for my dead tree copy, but it’s supposed to arrive by Friday.

  7. Daniel Catudal says:

I pre-ordered in july 2017; reading it at the moment. THKS a million.

  8. Darbie says:

Sorry to change gears does war have a release date? Rereading Oracle has been great but ready.…thanks

  9. Andrea Smith says:

I’ve been reading /listening most of the day. I’m loving it so far. Alas, may family openly interrupts while I’m reading but if I’m listening and mobile they leave me alone ????

  10. Stephen Engel says:

    Wonderful. Thanks Michelle

  11. Zia says:

I waited up until Midnight last night and then completely delayed sleeping until I finished. Absolutely loved it! Thank you so very much for continuing to write this series.

  12. Allyson Elrod says:

Today is my birthday and all I requested from my family was a day to myself to read my new Cast novel. Thanks for making my birthday excellent!

  13. Joelle Jines says:

You might have have forgotten that today was release day but I bet I wasn’t the only one counting down the days! Loving it!

  14. Mary E Wyss says:

The e‑book arrived a little after midnight and the dead tree version this afternoon. Since I work from home I may have read more than I worked today. Will finish it tonight.

  15. Elizabeth says:

Happy birthday to me!! Ok, yes my bday is on August, but the newest elantra book is always my bday present to myself, sooo yeah! Thank you amd i am already enjoying it during my students independent reading time!!!

  16. Can’t wait till it gets to my local book store…my daughter bought me a gift card for Xmas I’ve been waiting to use on your book

  17. hsmyers says:

Yes, that would be bad…although, depending on the size of the nails?

How many order both the ebook and the LFPB?

  18. Marci says:

Ok I read it … what’s with the end is the next one ready to release I expected I suppose some ending going to drive me crazy

  19. Mich Li says:

I have gotten my e‑book and awaiting the printed one coming my way in another few weeks. Woo hoo! However, I am at the stage of not wanting to read the book because if I do, I will need to wait for a long bit before the next installment comes my way. What a conundrum!

  20. Briana says:

Thank you for another wonderful book!

  21. Jan says:

Already reading it and already loving it. Thank you so much. I just love all the characters in this series. They feel like family and I find myself wondering what’s going on with other regulars who either aren’t in this book or haven’t appeared yet (I haven’t got very far). I wonder if Helen would give me an update on everyone :-D

  22. Joyce says:

I had it pre-ordered and started it last night. I finally had to go to sleep when half way through because of an early appointment this morning. It was really hard to do that. Thank you, Michelle. uhhh, when can we get the next one?

  23. michelle says:

    @Darbie: War doesn’t have a release date yet, I’m sorry =/.

@Marci: I’m sorry =(. The end is the best ending the book could have unless I wanted to remove all of the results of Barrani politics entirely. If I remove all complications from the history of the Barrani and all Barrani families are genuinely delighted to have their lost kin come home, I could have possibly come up with a more complete cohort ending in one book, but, ummm.

  24. michelle says:

@Joyce: T_T. The next one isn’t finished yet, but I am writing it, I promise :)

  25. Naomi says:

I’ve ordered both the ebook and the LFPB from Amazon and can’t get either until next week. Real jealous of those who already have their copy. Sometimes it sucks living in New Zealand.

  26. Melanie A says:

Picked it up at the book store after work! Yea

  27. Nancy Carrigan says:

Just got my copy today and am reading till I can’t stay awake anymore tonight! I started reading this series when the first book came out, which I still have. Hopefully there are more Kaylin stories coming.

  28. Julianne Single says:

Sacrificed sleep and then woke early spent most of the day reading,. Too hard to put down. The waiting was worth it but now I’m already waiting on the next release and the political firestorm poor Kaylin is no doubt about to be thrown into the middle of. I do have one question though, will we ever see the cloak Kaylin had made from Nightshade’s damaged one?

  29. liz says:

Cast in Deception ends rather abruptly. The rest of the story arc will be in the next book?

  30. Aaliya says:

When ever I think of what depth of conception must go into every book, to have to describe something so epheramel as shadow, my mind boggles.
Well done on another cast book. There is sooo much to go from here that I just have no idea where it will kick off from.
Congrats on another well written and beautifully developed book

  31. Hilda says:

I’m trying to write this, listen to our ambassador to the UN., and read Kayleen latest adventure. Cheers for women all over the world!!!! Amazon came through as promised,

  32. The Other Michelle says:

I really loved what you did with Kaylin’s character growth in this book, pushing her to see how narrow her view of the world is and how it would benefit her to broaden it. I’m glad we got some Tara/Tiamaris time — I missed them. And Sanabalis, but we did get some Arkon‑y goodness, so yay! Another yay for the brief glimpse of Ybelline.

I’m fascinated by the in-universe concept of the planes and how they interact. My question (if it isn’t going to be revealed in the future) does everything exist essentially on top of each other in metaphysical space or is there also a component of physical distance as well? Such as, did Bellusdeo’s planet exist in the same physical space as Kaylin’s but on different planes?

Anyway, thoroughly enjoyed this addition to the series and am looking forward to the next one and War. Thanks so much!

  33. LK Stimeling says:

Close to the end! I too forgot it was release day and have been staying up late!

Is there a printable Cast of Characters, grin, that we can use to refresh our memories? I located an out of date fan wiki. My brain no longer juggles the cast names and their backgrounds though I think one of the books contained a list?

I own several audio editions but always furrow my brow my brow over the pronunciation of ‘feral’. Just curious regarding that choice.

  34. Therese says:

I loved everything about this book. It was so nice to hear from Sanabalis again, and I’m really looking forward to getting to know the cohort. By the time I got to the end, I wanted another 100 pages. I can’t wait for the next one!

  35. michelle says:

@LK: There isn’t a printable list of the Cast cast =/. And I understand the need for it — in particular it’s the cohort, because I foolishly enlarged it in Peril. In my next life, there will only be 4 (including Teela), I swear. I… don’t remember a list in one of the books. And I will try to come up with something but — I’m writing the next CAST novel now, and will be neck deep the minute my editor gets back to me about the DAW title, WAR.

  36. Tchula says:

Finished it last night. Barrani politics is <3
Great set up for the next book, and I really can’t wait to read more about Teela and Tain’s dynamic with the cohort. More Nightshade, Severn, Kaylin won’t hurt either! Looking forward to next year’s installment! ;-)

  37. lynn a krawczyk says:

And now I am dying waiting for the next book omg this one was amazing!
